Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Newton has served as Chief Executive Officer and as a member of the board of directors of Apollo since 2014. From 2009 to 2014, Mr. Newton served as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer at ArthroCare Corporation, a medical device company. Prior to his leadership at ArthroCare, Mr. Newton served in a number of executive officer roles, including President and Chief Executive Officer, at Synenco Energy, Inc., a Canadian oil sands company. From 1994 to 2004, Mr. Newton was a Partner at Deloitte & Touche LLP. Mr. Newton holds a B.B.A. in accounting from The University of Texas at San Antonio.
President and Chief Commercial Officer
Mr. McWilliams has served as President and Chief Commercial Officer of Apollo since 2014. Mr. McWilliams co-founded Apollo in 2006 and served as President and Chief Executive Officer until 2014. From 2004 to 2006, Mr. McWilliams was an Entrepreneur in Residence at PTV Sciences LP‚ a venture capital fund focusing on life science and medical devices. Prior to this, Mr. McWilliams served as Chief Operating Officer at Chrysalis BioTechnology‚ Inc., a development stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing novel drug therapies for tissue regeneration, which he co-founded in 1996 and sold in 2003. Mr. McWilliams holds a B.S. with Honors in aerospace engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and a M.S. in engineering management from Stanford University.
Chief Financial Officer
Ms. Cavanaugh has served as Chief Financial Officer of Apollo since 2015. From 2014 to 2015 Ms. Cavanaugh provided advisory services to several healthcare companies. From 2010 to 2014, Ms. Cavanaugh served as Senior Vice President of Finance at Harden Healthcare, LLC, a provider of healthcare services for the long-term care industry, until its sale to Gentiva Health Services, Inc. She began her career with Ernst & Young before serving in executive management positions at The Cancer Therapy and Research Center, an affiliate of The University of Texas Health Science Center; Encore Medical Corporation, a medical device company; and Solis Women’s Health, a diagnostic imaging company. Ms. Cavanaugh holds a B.B.A. in accounting and finance from the University of Texas at Austin and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Christopher J. Gostout, M.D. is a gastroenterologist at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He has a joint appointment in the Department of Surgery. He is a Professor of Medicine in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and the Director of the Developmental Endoscopy and Research Unit. He is the founder of The Mayo Clinic GI Bleeding Team and the Developmental Endoscopy Unit. His areas of specialty interest, research, and publication include gastrointestinal bleeding, management of pancreaticobiliary disease, advanced endoscopic imaging, endotherapy of obesity, and endoscopic resection and tissue closure techniques.
Dr. Gostout has been Member of The Board of Trustees in the American College of Gastroenterology and has been the President of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE). He is the founder of the ASGE Interactive Training and Technology center. He has organized postgraduate hands-on courses for the ASGE and served as a Faculty Member on the major postgraduate courses for all of the GI subspecialty societies. He has organized the NOSCAR (Natural Orifice Surgery Consortium for Assessment and Research) full thickness resectionworking group.He has served as a Member of Medical & Scientific Advisory Board at Vysera Biomedical Limited and Enteromedics Inc.
Dr. Gostout co-founded Apollo Endosurgery in 2006 and currently serves as a consultant and Chief Medical Officer.
Executive Vice President of Operations
Mr. Tribié has served as Executive Vice President of Operations at Apollo since 2014. From 2008 to 2014, Mr. Tribié served as Senior Vice President Operations at IDev Technologies, Inc., a medical device company. Mr. Tribié began his career at U.S. Surgical Corporation, spending 19 years there while continuing to increase his responsibilities within operations. At the time of its acquisition by Tyco International Ltd. in 1998, he was Senior Vice President Operations at U.S. Surgical Corporation. Mr. Tribié holds a B.A. in economics from Fordham University and an M.B.A. from Long Island University.
Vice President, US Sales and Marketing
Mr. Schwartzhoff has served as Vice President, U.S. Sales and Marketing of Apollo since December 2015 and from December 2014 to December 2015 served as Apollo’s Vice President U.S. Sales. From 2011 to 2014, Mr. Schwartzhoff served as Vice President of Marketing, Sports Medicine, and from 2013 to 2014 also served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Spine at ArthroCare Corporation and Smith & Nephew plc, which acquired ArthroCare, both medical device companies. Mr. Schwartzhoff holds a B.S. in business from Mankato State University and an M.B.A. from Wake Forest University.
Vice President, Quality, Regulatory, and Clinical Affairs
Laura LeBoeuf joined Apollo in January, 2013 and is currently the Vice President of Quality, Regulatory, and Clinical Affairs.
During her 25 years in the medical device industry, Ms. LeBoeuf has held positions in Manufacturing, R&D, Quality, Regulatory and Clinical groups for companies ranging from well-established to initial start-up. She has extensive experience with Class II & III devices including radiofrequency-based surgical instrumentation, orthopedic implants, heart valves and pacemakers.
Ms. LeBoeuf holds a BS in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M University, and an MS in Engineering Management from The University of Texas.
Vice President, R&D and Corporate Development
Charlie Dean joined Apollo Endosurgery in 2010. Reporting directly to the CEO, he is responsible for leading the Research and Development function and the execution of strategic business initiatives including acquisitions, partnership or technology investment opportunities. In 2013 he was an integral part of the Lap-Band & Orbera acquisition from Allergan PLC, going on to lead the worldwide integration. In 2015 he served as interim general manager for Apollo’s European operations, returning to Austin HQ in 2016.
Mr. Dean came to Apollo Endosurgery from PA Consulting Group, where he supported his med-tech and pharmaceutical clients in Europe & the US through critical business inflexion points. His expertise spans new product commercialization, post M&A integration and business development.
Mr. Dean holds a Masters in Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering from The University of Birmingham. He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) & Certified Project Manager (PMP).
Vice President, Human Resources
Mary League joined Apollo in August 2009 and is currently the Vice President of Human Resources.
During her 25 years in the human resources field, Ms. League has held leadership positions across a variety of industries from global enterprises to very early venture backed start-ups. Prior to joining Apollo, Ms. League co-founded Human Paradigm, a successful human resources consultancy company. Ms. League has extensive experience managing human resources and organizational development functions in union environments, through multiple acquisitions, and with companies expanding globally and experiencing high growth phases.
Ms. League holds a BSW from the University of Texas at Austin and is a recipient of the Charles W. Laughton Presidential Scholarship.
Vice President, Business Process & Systems
Boris Fischer joined Apollo Endosurgery in August of 2014 and is currently the Vice President of Business Process & Systems.
Mr. Fischer comes to Apollo after nine years at ArthroCare Corporation, where he served as Vice President, Technology, Systems & Infrastructure. Preceding ArthroCare, Mr. Fischer served in a variety of leadership roles at General Motors in Europe and the U.S.
Mr. Fischer holds a BEng (Hons.), MSc, and Ph.D. from Coventry University (UK), and a MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and the WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management (Germany).
Vice President & General Manager LATAM
Geraldo Barbosa joined Apollo Endosurgery as Vice President & General Manager LATAM in January 2016. From May to December 2015, he worked as a consultant with Apollo to build Brazil Operations.
Mr. Barbosa comes to Apollo after 4 years as Managing Director LATAM at Smith & Nephew. Other experience includes 3 years as Managing Partner at GBC Consulting – focusing on Start-Ups, M&A and Management – as well as 27 years of experience serving Becton Dickinson where from June 2001 to October 2007, he acted as Executive Corporate Officer, President, and CEO for the South Latin American Region.
Mr. Barbosa holds a Marketing degree from ESPM/Superior School of Advertising and Marketing, and Business Administration degree from ESAN/Superior School of Administration and Business, both located in São Paulo. He has attended several Executive Programs at Harvard University and Columbia University in the USA, as well IMD Business School in Switzerland.
Vice President, General Manager EMEA
Mike Gutteridge joined Apollo in March 2016. Prior to this Mike held a Senior Leadership position with Smith and Nephew’s European and Canadian business within the ear nose and throat sector. Mike also brought with him fourteen years of medical device experience as a leader with ArthroCare in sports medicine, spine and ENT. Mike Started his career as a health care professional working in both the public and the private healthcare sector in the UK.
